Negative Index Metamaterials – Advanced Optical Materials


Mayte Gómez-Castaño and coworkers from the Nanopto group have developed an up scalable approach for the fabrication of negative index metamaterials.

Combining the low-cost techniques of soft nanoimprinting and electrodeposition, researchers produce fishnet metamaterials featuring strong negative indices at visible and near-infrared frequencies. Besides, they prove the change of the operation wavelength when infiltrating liquids in between the nanostructures, showing the potential of these metamaterials as optical sensors.
