Dr. Rodriguez has defended with merits her thesis named “Development of organic solar cells by combinatorial methods“. We extend the congratulations to his supervisors prof. Mariano Campoy-Quiles, from ICMAB-CSIC in Barcelona.
The optimization of organic solar cells entails the exploration of complex parametric landscapes in which several interrelated features determine the photovoltaic performance. In this thesis, we develop a high-throughput experimental framework based on the generation of lateral parametric gradients to accelerate the screening of organic solar cells. We first introduce Raman imaging as a spectroscopic tool to characterize the heterogeneity of the gradients in combination with photocurrent imaging. Then, we implement advanced solution-processing methods to generate solid-state gradients and demonstrate their potential in the combinatorial screening of binary and ternary organic photovoltaic blends. Finally, we develop a synergic workflow combining high-throughput experimental screening and machine-learning algorithms to predict the photocurrent phase space of organic photovoltaic blends.
